Sick of the spam
I’ve been seriously considering converting this this to a joomla blog, just because of all of the spam accounts and comments I’m getting. Joomla for Kilo-Tango doesn’t seem to have that problem.
On a lighter and more entertaining note, I got Episodes from Liberty City. Playing through The Lost and Damned. Pretty good. Sick of driving a stupid bike everywhere though. Also wishing I could find ANY information about adding the old music and talkshows from GTA IV to EFLC. I’m sure all the music files are hidden in one of those .dat files in the GTA folders. Though I’m not sure about the game progress checks to progress the news reports (or I could just not include those).
Looking forward to getting ARMAII. =D
As far as Kilo-Tango is going right now, we cannot get an image resizer to work on the forums. Not sure why. All of them either plainly don’t work, or resize the header image. Very frustrating.
Ignorance about Nuclear Power
Nuclear Power fascinates me, but like many people I was skeptical about it, especially after learning about the Chernobyl incident.
After this, I decided to do some research, because to me that was the logical thing to do. What caused the Chernobyl incident? Why did it happen? Those were the questions I was asking myself. Wikipedia, documentaries, 1 hour discovery specials, Russian translated documentaries, and so forth was my research.
I came to discover, that the incident was not normal. What really happened that day was shocking, and appalling:
This of course occurred during the downfall of the Soviet Union, the same Soviet Union whose economy was failing, the same Soviet Union that could barely educate their children. The events that occurred were due to incompetent, improperly trained staff, that was unsupervised.
A routine test, in fact a test that is often run at many Nuclear Power Plants without any problems, that was run by staff that did not know what they were doing. This was the night staff, all rookies. Had the day staff been there, the men with years of experience and proper training, this incident would not have occurred.
It is unfortunate that this event occurred, and that the Soviets kept it private, causing the “Western” countries to speculate at what happened. This speculation led to lies (albeit lies that were logical, but lies nonetheless) and the widespread panic regarding Nuclear Power. The media, as it does with everything, exaggerated the number of fatalities, and chronic diseases associated with the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant meltdown.
The truth about Nuclear Power is that it is actually the safest method of Producing power. Even with the Chernobyl accident, fewer people have died in the Nuclear Power industry than in any other industry of power production (including solar, because people fall off their roofs and hurt, or kill themselves). It is also non-polluting, excluding the pollution of the mining, transportation and enrichment of Uranium (but solar/wind/hydroelectric power pollutes using that same logic, because the materials have to be constructed and transported as well). And soon, it will be renewable. Scientists are working on methods to re-enrich used Uranium, and to use the depleted Uranium to create Plutonium which can also be used in NPPs.
If we replaced EVERY power plant in the United States with Nuclear Power Plants, we would produces a surplus of power. And even with the stores of Uranium and Plutonium we have now, meaning without more extraction of Uranium, we can produce enough energy to power the United States for more than a hundred years!
So what’s the big deal? Ignorance. Not stupidity, merely a lack of knowledge about the TRUTH of Nuclear Power and the Chernobyl incident. Congratulations media, you have won again.
